Helpful Hints On Getting The Most Out Of
Your Experience on The Un.P.S. On-Line Open Mic!
1. Bookmark your pieces. That way you will know whether or not people are commenting on your poetry. If not, be sure to follow-up yourself to see if anyone has posted a reply. If you don't know how to bookmark your posts, please go to the New Users Guide, Login Problems, Rules, Announcements Board near the top of the board, under the Important Information You Should Know Category.
2. Remember... to keep your posts coming back to the top of the board for more exposure and for more readers to get their chance to read it, a simple thank you to the other poets that commented on you piece will do that for you. It's just that simple.
3. This one is one that some of you may not realize. The 3 comment rule before you post your work on the board is also for your benefit as well. How you ask? Well, if you comment on other poets pieces then most likely, they will come and read your work, just simply out of common courtesy and interest for the person that left them a friendly reply. And furthermore, to get reply's from the Mods or the Administrator, if you haven't done this, we usually sometimes overlook your work or even delete it if you're not following the rules posted at the top of every board that all should read and pay attention to.
4. If you posted a piece and wonder why it is getting no comments or very little. First, go back and reread your piece. Does it make sense? Is it something that others can relate to? Check for typos and misspellings that could cause your piece to be misinterpreted and so on. Also, be aware of the board that you posted your work in... Did you post it in the correct board? If it is in the right board, is it a board the is frequented by our members? If it's a board that's less frequented it may take some time for other poets to see it and read it so don't be discouraged that you have no posts or very little when you post your work.
As a side note, the most highly trafficed boards on our site are The Poetry Free For All Board, Short Scribes, Love & Romantic Poetry, Spiritual/Inspirational Poetry, Black History Poems 24/7 and Senryu's & Haiku's.
5. Don't get defensive or offended if someone is not totally feeling your piece. Nobody is perfect and we all can improve on our writing whether we think so or not so welcome the good and the bad because it makes us better writers as a whole.
6. If you have any questions or concerns at all, please feel free to send a PM (Private Message) to any of our Mods or The Administrator and ask away. Be it advice, how or where to post something, the password to an Adult Board (18 and older only) or just anything at all.
7. Don't be afraid to explore our wonderful site because we have a lot to offer those that seek information. I've also noticed that most of us don't even look past the first page of a board to read and respond to poetry. Well, let me tell you... if you're new here, you've probably missed a lot of great poems by some very talented poets so it's good to go back into our archives and find some good reading there as well.
8. Last but not least, if you are feeling someone's poetry or have been inspired by them in some way, shape or form, don't be afraid to tell them so. Afterall... this is a message board and we all love feedback.
Thank you for your time and for reading.
Please pay close attention to Hint No. 3! We hope that you continue to enjoy your experience here at The Un.P.S. On-Line Open Mic.
